Europe of Gardens : visit of Bertrand Lavier's « Piazza San Marco » in Sainte Colombe Castle
Centre culturel ARCADE - Château de Sainte Colombe en Auxois, 21350 Sainte-Colombe, France
For the Rendez-vous aux Jardins programme organised by the Ministry of Culture as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
An in situ work by the visual artist Bertrand Lavier illustrates the crossovers of influences that took place in the 17th century during the construction of the Château de Sainte Colombe in Auxois, and in modern times with the action of the ARCADE Cultural Centre.
The use of yellow and red ochres on the façade, with the aim of emphasizing classical architecture, is directly inspired by Venetian practices. Bertrand Lavier's work, entitled "De la Piazza San Marco, détail", has found its place on the site of the former vegetable garden, which enjoys a privileged view over the hilly and wooded landscape of the Auxois. Composed of black and white Burgundy stone flooring, it represents a framed portion of the famous St Mark's Square in Venice. This work is part of the action of the Nouveaux commanditaires brought to Burgundy by Le Consortium.
Two exhibitions will be in progress at the ARCADE Cultural Centre: Blanc(s) de printemps and Sortie de résidence des designers Dimanche Studio.
